We invite you to the Federalist Society’s event on Thursday, September 28 from 12:10-1:20 with Judge Amul R. Thapar, “Defending Judicial Virtues: A Response to Richard Posner” in Room 120.
Judge Thapar sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Before that, he was a United States District Judge in the Eastern District of Kentucky. He was the first South Asian Article III judge in American history. Prior to his confirmation to the federal bench, he served as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky and assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Ohio and in the District of Columbia.
While a U.S. attorney, Judge Thapar was appointed to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee and chaired the Controlled Substances and Asset Forfeiture Subcommittee. He also served on the Terrorism and National Security Subcommittee, the Violent Crime Subcommittee and the Child Exploitation working group. Before that, Judge Thapar worked for the law firms of Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C., and Squire Sanders & Dempsey in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Judge Thapar was listed on President Trump’s Supreme Court short-list, and is regularly discussed as a future Supreme Court nominee. He was one of four individuals reportedly interviewed by President Trump for the Supreme Court vacancy filled by Justice Gorsuch.
Non-pizza lunch will, as always, be served.
We look forward to seeing you there!
